A modern building demands a modern approach to the business of pharmacy. Aisling O’Brien MD of O’Briens Pharmacy investigated how best to manage the growing number of compliance aids the team was coping with.
“There had to be a better way”, she explained “I knew that our customers would continue to demand help in managing their medication. The problem was not going away”.
O’Briens invested in a Robotik PouchPack with 207 canisters in spring of 2014. The layout of the pharmacy was tweaked to make better use of the space and to improve the workflow and then the staff trained. In June 2014 the first customers started to receive pouches and the response was very positive.
The majority of customers who receive a compliance aid are now catered for via the pouch dispensing robot.
“The robot with two staff is supporting the prescription volumes of a small pharmacy and there is room for growth. It is certainly one of the best investment decisions we have made in the last few years”, stated Aisling.
